Drainage and Turfing in Crowborough

It may not light everyone’s candle, but we get quite excited when a drainage job comes in.  It’s very rewarding to turn a boggy, unusable lawn or bed into one that will thrive and grow for our clients to enjoy for years to come.

This is what we did in Crowborough recently and our original spec was just to install drainage in the area around the house however our client was so pleased with the results he asked us to also to take down 3 Sycamore trees and to turf the area surrounding them too.

It’s difficult to show in a photo, but the lawn was incredibly boggy and completely unusable in wet weather, so most of the time basically.

The drainage channels were dug in a herringbone formation flowing into the existing main drainage.  They were then lined with a permeable membrane and pea beech before installing the perforated piping.  This was surrounded with more pea beach and then covered with earth ready for the turf.

Our client had a huge problem with water collecting under the deck, so we also installed French drains underneath it, which are not covered with earth but with the beech.  These connected to the mains drainage too.

Now you see me, now you don’t!  Topsoil is brought in to correct the levels and then the turf if laid.

Originally our client only wanted us to deal with the area around the house, but he was so pleased with the results, he decided he wanted us to take down 3 Sycamore trees and then turf the area.

It was a good move because it made the garden look complete and so much bigger too.
