Landscaping Project in Lindfield

A Sunken Garden, Raised Beds and Deck

This was a sizeable but unexciting garden in much need of a revamp.  Our clients had extended the house and now they wanted to create a beautiful outdoor space to enjoy too.

The Story

We do offer to draw scale plans, but our clients really liked our ideas, and trusted us to fulfil their brief without one. This meant the design – both hard landscaping and the planting scheme - could evolve throughout the project, and often this is how the best gardens are made.  Certainly, our clients were delighted with the results.

We took up the existing patio and cleared out the old and dying shrubs from the borders.

A large deck replaced the patio, giving lots of space for entertaining.  We built it at exactly the same height as the threshold of the bi-fold doors to help create a seamless connection between inside and out.

Our clients also wanted a more private area for sitting out in and our suggestion was to create a sunken garden.  It involved digging out tons and tons of soil and days of labour and hard graft but the final result was really worth it.

One long raised sleeper bed running the length of the garden and a path brings the 2 areas together. We turfed the lawn and topped the path with an ice blue stone, which looked really affective with the timber and granite sunken garden.

The finished sunken garden planted up with amongst other things, a stunning mature palm for additional height and Acers for a splash of colour.

Looking back up to the house from the sunken garden you can see some of the smaller plants we used.  I can just imagine the corner bench covered in cushions with a table or sofa down here to make an amazing place to sit out and enjoy the new garden during the summer months.
