Landscaping in Bexhill  - The Conclusion

This has got be the largest project we have done to date.  The multitude of levels and the way that the elements of the design fitted together also made it one of our most challenging.  We are therefore very proud of the quality of the finished garden and what we achieved for our clients. More importantly they were really pleased with their new garden too, and so we’re doubly delighted!

Over the course of many meetings we came up with a layout that both fulfilled our clients’ requirements and fitted within their budget.  The final design included a deck and lower patio that wrapped around the house; paved interlocking circles with our trademark curved timber wall behind it to create another patio for sunbathing; a woodland area with a third small seating area, a vegetable garden and potting shed, a new lawn and last but not least a path running along the front of the house with a further small paved area to catch the morning sun.

Basically there were a LOT of elements, but at one acre this was a sizeable plot, and needed them all to make an impact as well as create a flow around the garden.

If you’re interested, you can see some more photos from the early stages of the project as well as the scaled hand-drawn design we worked from on our Blog page.

Deck and Patio

The deck and raised planters are underway.  This will be a lounging area complete with rattan corner sofas.

The deck and patio are finished and the planters are ready for the plants.

Looking down the garden to show the large patio for entertaining and raised vegetable beds down a level to one side.  You can see the paved interlocking circles and curved timber wall in the background giving a private seating area to sit and enjoy the garden.

Et voila.  Our client knew what colour scheme she wanted to use, and this was a great starting point for choosing the plants.

Vegetable Garden and Paths

On the lowest level we created a vegetable garden complete with a potting shed and new base for a greenhouse.

We continued the paving around to the front of the house and laid new paths with a seating area at the far end.

Woodland Area

This was the top of the garden and we transformed it from this…

…to this.

We adjusted the planting scheme here to include shrubs and plants that are happy in dappled shade to create a woodland feel.  There was a further small patio and curved wall here too with a path that winds its way under the trees and joins it to the main part of the garden.

A long raised planter along the back fence was filled with mature shrubs to fit with the woodland feel, improve privacy and hide the fence.
