Installing Drainage in Lindfield, January 2021

This garden had always had a drainage issue and our clients rightly felt that it had to be tackled before they could make any other plans for their garden.   A timely decision given that it was the wettest January we have had for many, many years.

The grass has been removed and then it rained… and rained… and rained.  Extreme conditions admittedly, but you can see how bad the problem was.

The channels have been dug throughout the lawn and the land drainage pipes installed.  Rob’s just in the process of covering them with shingle to further improve drainage.

Once the drainage was installed we built a path to curve through the long, narrow garden and draw the eye up to the end.

Right at the end of the garden we built raised vegetable beds leaving plenty of room for compost bins and a new shed for which we had built the base.   The shed is on its way.

The turfed lawn and beds were the finishing touches.   The clients wanted to plant up the beds themselves and so it was all looking a bit bare in the depths of winter when we had finished.  No doubt by now their new plants are starting to grow and bring the space to life.  They also have plans for a pergola to add height and interest as well as to break up the garden, and so watch this space!
