Landscaping in Chelwood Gate

You may remember we posted some photos of this garden a fair while ago when we had just completed the first stage of this extensive project.  Well, nearly 3 months later and we have now finished.

The Story

This was how the garden started out back in February when we were removing the Rhododendron bushes and thinning the trees. This made the garden so much bigger and lighter.

We then installed extensive drainage throughout the lawn because it was completely waterlogged, even during dry spells.

The beginnings of a patio at the top of the garden to catch the evening sun.

Two interlocking circles formed the patio and our trademark circular wall provided height and structure.

And in comes the mulch…

…for the finishing touch. A lovely view of the top patio area – we had thinned out these trees in February and under planted with small shrubs.

The finished top patio area.  We chose shrubs that the deer wouldn’t like for the planting scheme to increase their chance of survival.

We moved on to the main lower decked seating area. There was a lot of soil to dig out to make the area level.

The deck is down, the skeleton of the curved wall goes in and the raised planters have been built.

Planted up and ready to relax on, except for one small thing - the rest of the garden was still just mud.

It was a huge area to cover, but now the trees had been thinned to allow plenty of light in to the garden, and the drainage had been installed a lawn would be able to thrive.

We leveled and graded the area before laying the turf…and there was a LOT of turf! It took days to lay.

Time to sit and enjoy the finished garden whilst sipping something cold and refreshing!  You can see the top patio in the distance and a nice and stripy lawn. The only thing you can’t see is the play area we created for the trampoline, and apparently the children have been making good use of it already so everyone’s happy!
