A Decked Garden in Crowborough

Our brief was to create different levels in the back garden, keeping the top patio as it was. We did this by building a deck which blended in with the existing patio, raised beds, retaining walls and a lower private patio as well as a functional area for the bins, washing line, and a herb garden. In the front garden it was a question of clearing out the tired old beds and replanting with a scheme to match with the back garden,

Before work began.

The clearance stage, but things can only get better!

Work underway.  There are nearly 200 sleepers in those raised beds and retaining walls, filled with 20 tons of topsoil – that’s a lot of barrow loads!

All the hard landscaping and planting is complete.  Our clients had very definite ideas about the types of plants they wanted to use and we were happy to go with their input.  During the summer the plants will grow, fill and soften the beds further.

This is a good view of the garden looking towards the house and shows the circular patio we built.  We put in the arbour to add height and this with the steps down to the patio makes this area feel slightly separate from the rest of the garden.  This was further enhanced by the curved wall we built around the patio to give our clients privacy.

Even these working areas of the garden have been landscaped so that they look great yet maintain their functionality.
